I bought this book brand new through Amazon because I needed the access code for my class. This book does NOT come with the code. Despite what the name states: "Earth Science Plus MasteringGeology with eText -- Access Card Package (14th Edition)," it does NOT come with any eText or code of any sort. I had to learn this the hard way by first calling Amazon customer service, who immediately directed me to the publisher's customer service, where the people said they couldn't do anything about it. Then about half an hour later, the person I spoke to from Amazon emailed me, informing me that this product does not in fact come with a code even though it says it does. So, if you are looking for the code that goes along with this book, look elsewhere.
It is a good educational book required for my sons college class.The book came with the access code which was required for his class. We purchased the non-bonded leaf version because of the discount it is working just fine with our own binder. It is expensive because it is the newest edition. I did hear that the last edition is very comparable and less pricey. I have not further investigated that but next time I will for sure. The learning material is good but can be kind of drawn out and not explain direct questions. Sometimes easy and then sometimes impossible to find an exact answer. Must have good reading and comprehension skills. Hope this helps....
BELIEVE ME....this physical textbook does not come with an access card even though the advertisement clearly states that it does. Now my son has to return it and repurchase through a different vendor. I read the reviews and took a chance with this item. I got burned too.
Renting this book for class and have had it for a little over 2 weeks now. This book is very well written and very easy to read. Each chapter is as interesting as the last. The reason why I took off a star is because when I received the book the cover pages were bent and the first page in the book had a stain on it that goes through some pages (from the previous renters I'm guessing). Overall it's a good book to read.
I purchased the 11th edition for a class the required the 12th edition. The newer edition was so much more expensive. I began to sweat on the first day of class when the professor stated "No substitutions, no exception." Then he assigned the questions at the end of the chapter as homework... More sweating. However, the book is nearly identical to 12th edition. Even the review questions at the end of the chapter are the same. Items to note that are different:11th edition has a cd that will only play in your computer, where as 12th edition has an interactive dvd.Chapter 7 and chapter 8 are flip-flopped.11th edition has more pictures than the 12th edition, so sometimes I was a page or two behind in page numbers.Highly recommend buying the 11th edition instead of the 12th in this instance... I hate when textbooks come out with new editions costing students more money, but make no real improvements!
I bought the old edition for only $10 while everyone else in my class bought the new edition for $130. There isn't really a difference in the editions. The review questions are all the same. All they did was add a couple new "HD" pictures. The other different thing is the new edition moves chapter 8 to chapter 7. So all they did was flip flop two chapters. Then comes the cd that comes with it. The cd in this edition only works on your computer as it is a cd rom, the one with comes with the new edition is a dvd, so it works with everything. So overall, you can see the differences are very small. If ever you need this book do yourself a favor and save at least $100 buying this edition instead of the new edition.
This book was very helpful, although an older edition it served its purpose well. I got a B in the class so not too bad because I didn’t have to end up spending $150 on the updated edition. I think I paid under $5 if I remember correctly.
Earth Science covered in 792 pages? Ok. It's great, it's a textbook, not an armchair novel. And the cover photo is very pretty. You get the textbook that the professor assigns and this is what was assigned. This is a great textbook that cover the essentials for the budding Earth Scientist. Buy early and avoid the rush.
